Update: After I sent detailed measurements of battery current draw to Bauer they offered to exchange this model for a newer one that uses a new circuit drawing less battery power. It appears that the new one will solve this problem. I can now also hear the beeper that I've never been able to hear before. Bauer's customer support has been great. They are truly trying to create a great product and provide great service. I think they are successful on both counts. Raising my evaluation.Update: After having this product for some time now I can absolutely NOT recommend it due to very short battery life - only about 8 weeks. I've tried Duracell, Everyready and Costco alkaline, and even long-life Lithium and nothing lasts more than about 8 weeks, even when our trailer is not in use. It's convenient but be sure to take your key with you because you never know when the batteries are going to be dead. I also still find the inability to hear the beeps are real irritant, but I've learned to reprogram it without listening for beeps since I've had to do it so often due to dead batteries.Update:Initially neither my wife nor I could get it to reliably recognize the code. We would tap, or swipe and tried several things to make it "turn on" and recognize the code. Finally I noticed that it simply requires "fat fingers"! If we press the entire flat surface of the first joint, not just the tip of a finger, it comes on reliably every time. So now we're happy. The beeps are still very problematic - I never hear them. They should add an LED for visible feedback as well as the beeps.Original Review:Install was fairly easy replacing an original FIC lock on our 10 year old 5th wheel. The fit was tight and I had to do a bit of filing but not too much. The difficult part was the programming. I tried for over an hour to get it to program and it would not give me the 3 beeps indicated in the instructions. I had played with it a bit after installation to see how it worked using the default combination. Evidently you should reprogram it immediately. I finally removed a battery to reset it and when I reinserted the battery it would program just fine. Two irksome points they need to address 1) the beeps are so high pitched I could not hear them. My wife has perfect hearing and she had a difficult time. Birds chirping nearby were louder. They need to incorporate an LED light and blink it as well as using beeps, 2) the keypad backlight is somewhat inconsistent and unreliable. Sometimes a touch will turn it on other times it won't come on. If I change my mind I'll update this review in a few months.
